The Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute (MERR) responded Monday to a gray seal pup at Cape Henlopen State Park that entangled with line from what looked like a mesh live bait bag. A beachgoer reported the seal to MERR, and the rescue team arrived before the seal made its way back into the water.

The seal was taken to the MERR facility where the rope was removed and a neck wound was treated.

She was then taken to the National Aquarium triage center in Ocean City for additional car.

The seal has been dubbed Wing Ding Verdana!! (This year’s naming theme is ‘fonts.’)
