More Delawareans Employed, but Unemployment also Increased in August

The unemployment rate in Delaware differs from the national rate by just 3-tenths of a percent – the smallest difference since August of 2021. From July to August, the number of employed workers and the Delaware labor force level grew by 5 tenths of a percent. Delaware Labor officials report this is the largest over-the-month increase since the addition of 3000 workers in November of 2020.

Delaware’s unemployment rate for August is at 4.1% – unchanged from July while the national rate is at 3.8%.

In Sussex County the unemployment rate increased from 3.5% in July to 3.9% in August.

The number of unemployed Delawareans increased by 200 in August – the first over-the-month increase in unemployed workers since November of 2022.
