UPDATED – 6:40pm – Ocean City’s newest Chief of Police has now taken his oath of office. Chief Ray Austin was sworn into office by Mayor Rick Meehan at the start of Monday night’s City Council meeting before a packed chamber.
Chief Austin is no stranger to Ocean City or the O-C-P-D as he began his career in Ocean City as a seasonal officer in 1991 and became a full-time officer in 1994. In 2022 Austin retired from the department – and became a special investigator in the Worcester County State’s Attorney’s Office. Austin was hired as the result of a nationwide search after Chief Ross Buzzuro announced his retirement at the end of October last year.
