May 30, 2026/
The Ocean View Police will launch two new youth programs at Lord Baltimore Elementary School next week. These programs are designed to educate students, strengthen community relationships and provide children with valuable life-saving skills.
On Monday, from 9am to noon all 5th grade students at LB will participate in CPR and Stop the Bleed training. Then on Thursday, June 4th from 10am to noon, students will have an opportunity to learn about police K-9 operations while promoting positive interactions with law enforcement. The programs have been developed by School Resource Officer Sergeant Rhys Bradshaw.
Additional information from Ocean View Police:
Fifth Grade CPR and Stop the Bleed Training –
The program will be led by School Resource Officer Sergeant Rhys Bradshaw and members of the Ocean View Police Department, with assistance from the Millville Volunteer Fire Company and Lord Baltimore Elementary School staff.
The training is designed to introduce students to emergency lifesaving techniques, including hands-only CPR, bleeding control, and basic first aid concepts.
Chief Kenneth McLaughlin praised the initiative, stating:
“Sergeant Bradshaw and the Ocean View Police Department continue to develop new and exciting ways to connect with local children. Research indicates that students in this age group are capable of providing quality CPR and first aid. Our hope is that the skills taught through this program will remain with these students throughout their lives and may someday help save a life.”
A Lap with Leo –
Ocean View Police K-9 officers and K-9 Leo will conduct a special presentation for fifth-grade students. During the event, one student from each fifth-grade class will be selected to receive a stuffed K-9 Leo plush dog. Each winning student will then have the opportunity to lead his or her class on a walk around the school track alongside K-9 Leo and his handler.
The program is intended to build positive relationships between children and law enforcement while educating students about the important role police K-9 teams play in protecting the community.
Commitment to Youth Safety Education
These new programs are part of a broader effort by the Ocean View Police Department and Sergeant Bradshaw to educate and protect local children.
In addition to these initiatives, Sergeant Bradshaw provides firearms safety awareness training to all Lord Baltimore Elementary School students. The program teaches children what to do if they encounter an unsecured firearm: Stop, Don’t Touch, Run Away, and Tell a Grown-Up.
Sergeant Bradshaw also conducts age-appropriate drug and alcohol awareness training designed to educate students about the dangers associated with substance use.
Chief McLaughlin added:
“Sergeant Bradshaw consistently goes above and beyond in his role as School Resource Officer. His dedication to educating, mentoring, and protecting our children has had a tremendous positive impact on the students and staff of Lord Baltimore Elementary School. These programs are excellent examples of the innovative work he continues to bring to our community.”
