President & First Lady at DAFB for Dignified Transfer of 13 Service Members Killed in Kabul Terror Attack

President Biden has made his first visit as commander-in-chief to Dover Air Force Base for the dignified transfer ceremony as the bodies of US personnel who were killed in an attack on the airport in Kabul last week returned to American soil. Mr. Biden was accompanied by First Lady Dr. Jill Biden at Sunday’s solemn event.

White House press reports say the President locked his gaze on the cases as they were carried to transfer vehicles, after they arrived on a C-17 Globemaster. President Biden occasionally bowed his head and appeared to close his eyes.


Family members of the 13 service members who died also attended.

President Biden and the First Lady will be at Dover Air Force Base today to meet with the families of fallen service members who died in the terror attack last week in Kabul. They will take part in a dignified transfer will take place at Dover at noon. Thirteen US service members were killed in the attack – 11 Marines, one soldier and one sailor.

The Department of Defense has announced the deaths of 13 service members who were supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel. They died Aug. 26, 2021, as the result of an enemy attack while supporting non-combatant evacuation operations in Kabul, Afghanistan. The incident is under investigation.

Sgt. Nicole L. Gee was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 24, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Sgt. Johanny Rosariopichardo was assigned to 5th Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Naval Support Activity Bahrain.

For the Navy, the deceased is:
Navy Hospitalman Maxton W. Soviak, 22, of Berlin Heights, Ohio.
