Preston, MD Arrested for Sex Crimes Following Joint Investigation


A Preston, Maryland man has been arrested and charged with several sex crimes following a joint investigation that the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division initiated on April 25th. The joint investigation also involved the Caroline County Department of Social Services – Child Protective Services. During the investigation it was learned a juvenile victim had disclosed that Michael Scott Burgess of Preston, Maryland had sexually abused them. Burgess was seen before a Caroline County District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance, at which time he was held without bond and remitted to the custody of the Caroline County Detention Center.  This remains an active investigation and anyone with any information is asked to contact D/Sergeant Hafer of the Criminal Investigation Division at 410-479-5980.

On May 7, 2025, Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division arrested Burgess on an active Caroline County District Court Arrest Warrant with the following charges.
Rape in the First Degree
Rape in the Second Degree
Third Degree Sex Offense
Sex Abuse Minor
Incest
First Degree Child AbuseSecond Degree Child Abuse
First Degree Assault
Second Degree Assault
Reckless Endangerment
False Imprisonment
