Proposed Delaware Law Targets Illegal Dumping

A bill making it’s way through Delaware’s State Senate would increase penalties on offenders who illegally dump. Those charged would face hefty fines as well as community service.

Currently, illegal dumping falls under the same statue as littering, which can carry a 50 dollar fine and eight hours of community service. Under the new proposal, first offenses would carry a minimum of a 500 dollar fine, and one thousand dollars each for subsequent offenses.

Under the proposed law “Senate Bill 5”, money collected would be used to fund law enforcement investigations on illegal dumpings.
