Delaware Legislation Which Includes New Requirement in Reporting of Suspected Animal Cruelty Passes Senate

Legislation introduced this week adds a new requirement concerning animal cruelty. This Act requires law-enforcement agencies, the Department of Services for Children, Youth and Their Families, and the Department of Justice to report suspected animal cruelty to the Office of Animal Welfare that is discovered while performing their responsibilities in child welfare cases. This Act also provides immunity to people who in good faith, report suspected animal cruelty. The primary sponsor of Senate Bill 71 is Senator Stephanie Hansen who represents the 10th Senate District in New Castle County. Among the co-sponsors of the bill include 39th District Representative Danny Short. The bill is awaiting consideration in Committee.
