The installation of bollards at Rehoboth Avenue and the boardwalk began in mid March. The bollards are being installed on the Avenue approaching the bandstand and at the edge of the boardwalk and Rehoboth Avenue. City officials say the installation of the bollards at the boardwalk, Bandstand bathrooms and the southside of the sidewalk is complete. The sidewalk’s northside and the swing gates at the boardwalk will be completed prior to May 15th and the start of parking permit and meter season.

This safety plan was presented to the City Commissioners last October to enhance safety along the boardwalk area at the end of Rehoboth Avenue. The bollards are spaced five feet apart. The project also includes two active barriers – drop arm or swing gates on Rehoboth Avenue at the boardwalk. City officials cited the need because of the heavy pedestrian presence during summer concerts at the Bandstand and to secure te area around it. These safety measures will help prevent vehicles from entering pedestrian areas.
