The MV New Jersey has rejoined the Cape May – Lewes Ferry fleet of vessels, following a $20-million overhaul.

The vessel was in dry-dock for nearly a year. New engines are expected to reduce emissions by about 40-percent.

We are excited to have the MV New Jersey back and we know our customers will be happy to have her back, too.”  Director of Ferry Operations for the Cape May – Lewes Ferry Heath Gehrke said.  “This repowering and the renovations during this dry-docking were the most comprehensive, complex, and expensive Ferry project in more than two decades.  With continued pent-up demand for vacation travel post-COVID, she’ll definitely be a welcomed addition to our schedule.”

The MV New Jersey arrived at Caddell Shipyard in Staten Island, New York. Other mechanical improvements were also carried out during the drydocking. The vessel also got new fabricated smokestacks, and the underwater hull was sandblasted and painted.
