ORIGINAL STORY – Berlin Fire Company and Ocean City paramedics were called to Assateague Island State Park Sunday for multiple traumatic injuries. Maryland Department of Natural Resources spokesman Hunter Dortenzo tells the Talk of Delmarva that reports of a shark bite are unconfirmed as the victim refused treatment by EMS personnel and DNR staff were unable to evaluate the victim’s wounds.

However, a Natural Resources Police officer was injured as the result of a fall while responding to the unconfirmed shark bite. The officer was flown by Trooper 4 to Tidal Health Peninsula Regional in Salisbury where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. He was released Sunday evening.
