Fruitland firefighters were called to Shad Point Road in Salisbury Thursday afternoon around 4:30 for a structure fire. Firefighters arriving at the scene found smoke and fire and additional crews were called to assist at the scene or provide backup.
Maryland State Fire Marshal investigators say there were smoke alarms present and activated and the fire was accidental and began in the kitchen as the result of a burner on the stove being left on.
The occupants were evaluated for smoke inhalation but not taken to the hospital. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Damage is estimated at $100,000.
