A 31-year-old Salisbury man has been convicted of First-Degree Assault and weapons offenses. Sentencing is postponed for the completion of a pre-sentencing investigation. Markel Barkley remains in custody pending sentencing. The charges stem from an incident that occurred on October 11th, 2022, in which Barkley threatened his then-girlfriend with an illegal handgun as they were ending their relationship, and she had told him to leave the residence of which she was the sole lessee. He fled from police, and they conducted an extensive search, which involved Maryland State Police and allied agencies, including tactical units, canines, helicopters, and drones. Salisbury police found him the next day.
