UPDATED: Salisbury Man Dies after Fire Thursday Afternoon; Go Fund Me Set up to Help Displaced Residents

UPDATED – 08/04/26 – A fire on Tangier Street in Salisbury last week took the life of a Salisbury man and left two other residents of the row house displaced. Ebony Ballard and her daughter were displaced and now the community is stepping up to help them. Ballard is the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Washington High School – and tried to help her neighbor escape during the fire. A Go Fund Me has been set up to Support Ebony and her daughter as they begin the journey of rebuilding after the fire.

ORIGINAL STORY – 07/30/26 – A house fire in Salisbury which took the life of a 75 year old man Thursday afternoon is under investigation. The State and Salisbury Fire Marshal’s Offices are investigating the fire in a five-unit masonry row home.

Firefighters were called to Tangier Street just after 12:30pm where they found fire inside the single story structure and located the 75 year old occupant inside the unit of origin. He was taken to a local hospital and then flown to a Baltimore-area burn center where he later died from his injuries.

The investigation continues into the cause of the fire, but smoking materials cannot be ruled out. Smoke alarms were present and activated during the fire. Two other residents in the building have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

Damage is estimated at $7000.
