A Salisbury man was arrested on DUI charges after police say he knocked down an electric pole in Parsonsburg, Maryland.

According to Maryland State Police, troopers and EMS were called to the 31000 block of Old Ocean City Road at Mt. Vernon Avenue for reports of a single vehicle crash.

When police arrived they discovered a downed electrical pole that was caused by a collision with a vehicle, operated by 46-year-old Matthew James Hearn, of Salisbury, Maryland.

Hearn told police he was not injured and refused medical treatment on the scene, according to police.

During the investigation, troopers say they had reason to believe Hearn was Under the Influence of Alcohol. He submitted to a Field Sobriety Test that led to his arrest, according to police.

Delmarva Power responded to the scene to repair the electric pole.

Hearn was charged with various DUI offenses and for the collision with the pole.
