A Salisbury man has been sentenced for possession of child pornography. Circuit Court for Wicomico County Judge S. James Sarbanes sentenced 33 year old Sean Peterson to 25 years in prison – to run consecutively to a 25 year sentence that he is already serving which was imposed in Calvert County. Peters previously pleaded guilty in July to six counts of possession of child pornography. Following his sentences Peterson will be subject to lifetime sexual offender supervision and required to register as a Tier 1 Sexual Offender.
Additional information from Wicomico County State’s Attorney:
In February of 2024, Peterson was found to be in possession of a USB drive containing folders bearing the names of several persons. Within each folder, investigators located multiple images of child pornography depicting three separate children. Through the investigation conducted by the Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center, detectives were able to identify the three children in the images and to determine that Peterson had produced the images when he resided in Calvert County, Maryland, where he had access to the children. Other electronic devices were seized from Peterson, and a vast amount of child pornography downloaded from the internet was located in his possession.
Peterson was convicted in Calvert County of three counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor and Production of Child Pornography related to this conduct and received a sentence of 25 years of active incarceration, with 60 years suspended. As part of that sentence, Peterson will be subject to 5 years of supervised probation, Lifetime Sexual Offender Supervision, and registration as a Tier III Sexual Offender for life.
Peterson was also charged in Wicomico County for possession of the child pornography. The 25-year sentence he received in Wicomico County was imposed consecutively to his Calvert County sentence. As a result of the dual prosecution, Peterson will serve 50 years of active incarceration for his crimes.
Wicomico County State’s Attorney (SA) Jamie L. Dykes said, “Those who do harm to children will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I am grateful for the diligent efforts of law enforcement which made possible the identification of the children exploited by this Defendant and permitted authorities to successfully prosecute the man who perpetrated these crimes against the victims.”
SA Jamie L. Dykes commended Detective G. Wells of the Salisbury Police Department, who was the lead investigator, Child Protective Services, other members of the Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center, and law enforcement authorities of Calvert County for their work in the investigation. SA Dykes also commended Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Calabrese, who prosecuted the case and advocated for justice.
