A Salisbury man has been sentenced on charges of 1st degree murder and 1st degree assault. Circuit Court for Wicomico County Judge S. James Sarbanes sentenced 20 year old Khalil Bivens to Life with all but 40 years suspended on the murder charge and a consecutive term of 10 years on the assault charge for an active sentence of 50 years. The active sentence will be followed by five years of supervised probation.Ā Any violation of probation would expose Bivens to the remainder of the LIFE sentence.Ā The sentence was reached after consultation between the family of the deceased and Judge Sarbanes.
Court records show that on October 28, 2024, Bivens and three others went to the Cash Market on West Road in Salisbury and fired multiple shots into a crowd of people outside the market ā killing the victim and injuring another. Bivens and a co-defendant were arrested on November 1, 2024, after a police chase through Salisbury.Ā Officials say Bivens threw a bag from the vehicle during the chase, which was recovered by law enforcement and found to contain the murder weapon. Evidence shows this incident to be yet another tragic example of ongoing gang violence in Wicomico County.
