Seaford Man Sentenced in Fatal Wicomico County Crash

A Seaford man has been sentenced in the Circuit Court for Wicomico County following a plea hearing in mid-March. Judge S. James Sarbanes sentenced 20 year old Adam McGinnis to 10 years of imprisonment for grossly negligent vehicular manslaughter. However Judge Sarbanes suspended all but 18 months of the sentence which will be served in the Wicomico County Detention Center.
According to Court Records, Maryland State Police were called for a single vehicle collision in Pittsville on February 8th just after midnight. McGinnis – who was18 at the time was the driver – his 21 year old passenger was declared deceased on the scene from injuries received in the crash. McGinnis was DUI at the time of the crash – at more than twice the legal limit in Maryland.

On February 8, 2025, shortly after midnight, the Maryland State Police responded to a single vehicle collision on Gumboro Road in Pittsville, Wicomico County, MD. Investigation revealed that McGinnis, 18 years of age at the time, was the operator of the motor vehicle. One of McGinnis’ passengers, who was only 21 years of age, was pronounced deceased on scene as a result of the injuries he sustained in the collision. Further investigation revealed that McGinnis was traveling between 94 and 105 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone prior to losing control of his vehicle. McGinnis’ blood was tested and found to have a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) more than twice the legal limit in Maryland.
Wicomico County State’s Attorney Jamie Dykes said, “At sentencing, the victim’s grieving mother made a profound victim impact statement that displayed grace and compassion to everyone in the courtroom. Despite the depth of her loss, she transformed the moment into a plea for balance, requesting full accountability while extending the grace of a second chance for the man who took her son’s life.” SA Dykes commended the members of the Maryland State Police for their work in the investigation, specifically TFC Zack and Senior Trooper Bunger. Finally, SA Dykes commended Assistant State’s Attorney Jeffrey Hysan, Jr. and Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Lauren Bourdon for their advocacy in this case.
