Second Lawsuit Filed Against Mountaire Farms

A second complaint has been filed on behalf of multiple plaintiffs against Moutaire Farms in Millsboro. Similar to the class action suit filed earlier this month, residents in the vicinity of the poultry processing plant have been living with air and water pollution issues since 2000, when Mountaire bought the company. Residents wells and water have become contaminated because of poor monitoring, treatment and improper storage of wastewater at the plant. Area residents have suffered increased medical issues – including gastrointestinal disease, cancer and more. The suit also cites the wrongful death of Kiwanis Burton who died after suffering a severe asthma attack while at home and being subjected to odors and air pollution caused by Mountaire. The plaintiffs are seeking judgment against the defendants, compensatory damages, special and punitive damages, medical monitoring and relief as the Court deems just and proper.
