Selbyville Man Arrested on Multiple Drug Offenses Following Pursuit

A Selbyville area man has been arrested by Delaware State Police on multiple felony drug offenses after a pursuit and search warrant. Last Wednesday evening around 7, members of the Sussex County Governor’s Task Force and County Drug Unit were conducting a drug investigation of 27 year old Jaquan Johnson for distribution of drugs at a property on Bennett Road.
Police spotted a van driven by Johnson arrive at the property and then leave – a computer check showed he was wanted in Maryland and were recently involved in a pursuit with police in Worcester County. Detectives pulled the van over but when they told him to exit the van he sped away.
Police chased the van into Selbyville and deployed stop sticks, but the van failed to stop and collided with a vehicle at Route 54 and South Main Street – Johnson finally came to a stop on Main Street in Frankford where he ran off on foot as he tossed a potato chip bag. Police used a taser to stop Johnson. In the chip bag police found over 60 grams of cocaine, as well as crack cocaine, and Xanax. Drug paraphernalia was found in the van. A search warrant was obtained for the Bennett Road property where detectives found items for processing drugs and ammunition.

Johnson was arrested and taken to Troop 4, where he was charged with the crimes listed below:
- Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Tier 3 (Felony)
- Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tier 3 (Felony)
- Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance, Tier 2 (Felony) – 2 counts
- Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tier 2 (Felony) – 2 counts
- Unlawful to Knowingly Operate or Attempt to Operate a Clandestine Laboratory (Felony)
- Maintaining a Drug Property (Felony)
- Make, Distribute, or Possess any Item Designed to be Used in Counterfeiting any Drug/Container/Labeling (Felony)
- Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal (Felony)
- Resisting Arrest
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – 2 counts
- Numerous Traffic Violations
Johnson was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $127,617 secured bond.
The driver of the vehicle Johnson collided with was not injured.
