A bill aimed at curbing rowdy car events in Ocean City passes through the Maryland House of Delegates. The bill, sponsored by Delegate Mary Beth Carozza, allows either the State Highway Administration or local authorities to designate an area on State Highways as a “special event zone.” In order to promote public safety, the special event zones allows speed limits to be reduced and increased penalties for speeding or other traffic violations. Delegate Carozza says the law would give law enforcement additional tools to control unlawful, reckless and dangerous behavior that Ocean City and the surrounding area has experienced with certain major motor events. The legislation is on the fast track, and if it passes the Senate and signed, will be in place by the time Spring Cruisin Event takes place.
