Structure Fire on Layton Davis Road near Millsboro Under Investigation

Personnel from Mid-Sussex Rescue were called for a medical emergency with burns, but found heavy smoke when they arrived at Layton Davis Road Saturday morning just before 11. Indian River firefighters arriving at the scene found smoke and fire showing – tankers from multiple area fire companies at a nearby water shuttle training symposium brought water to the scene.

Officials believe an occupant was trying to operate a propane powered space heater which likely caused the fire. One occupant was hospitalized with significant burns – a second occupant refused additional EMS services. Firefighters were on the scene for over 2 ½ hours.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating.
