Susan Monday

Susan Monday is an award-winning broadcast journalist with experience as a talk show host, news anchor, and reporter.

“SuMo,” as her listeners call her, had the dream of becoming a classic rock DJ.  Growing up in the Philadelphia area during the dawn of FM radio, she spent many hours listening to albums and dissecting cover notes.  Her main role at the University of Delaware, besides studying to be an English teacher, was as the co-creator of the Pencader F “party tapes,” a role Susan took very seriously.

An avid reader, a lover of literature, and a grammar stickler, Susan went on to teach high school English in the Baltimore County Public School System.  After an unsatisfying stint in corporate America, Susan decided to follow her dream.  She started out spinning records at several stations in DE and NJ, but soon realized music radio had changed since the days of album-oriented rock.  It was as a jack-of-all trades part-timer at WDEL in Wilmington, DE, that someone in management realized SuMo could write and speak.  Brilliant!  That was the start of Susan’s transitioning into the world of news/talk.

Her first full-time job in radio was at WDEL, where she co-hosted Delaware’s Morning News.  She went on to work as a news anchor at WMAL in Washington, DC and had the opportunity to learn from seasoned broadcasting professionals like ABC’s Sam Donaldson and Ann Compton.  It was at WMAL as part of “The Chris Core Show” that she realized how much she liked the talk format.

After returning to the Delaware Valley, Susan worked at KYW NewsRadio and The Big Talker 1210 in Philadelphia.  Working side-by-side with nationally-recognized talk professionals like Michael Smerconish and Dom Giordano continued to fuel Susan’s interest in the talk format.  It was at The Big Talker that Susan had her first opportunity to host a weekend talk show.  Susan hosted “The Susan Monday Show” from 2012-2019 at Delaware 1059.

Susan has been recognized for her broadcasting work from The Associated Press and the Delaware Press Association.  Susan was Delaware Today’s Editor’s Choice for Best Radio Personality in 2015 and 2016.

In addition to being an avid reader and news consumer, Susan’s interests include bicycling, the National Parks, hiking, boating, and consignment shopping.  Email her at susan.monday@wgmd.com.
