A public interview was held during the Sussex County Council meeting Tuesday for a nominee to the Planning and Zoning Commission. After the interview the Council approved John Passwaters of Bridgeville to a seat on the Planning and Zoning Commission. His term will begin on September 1st and ends at the end of June of 2026. Passwaters, who was nominated by Councilman Steve McCarron, will fill the remainder of the term held by Brian Butler, who resigned earlier this month to spend more time with family. Passwaters owns a landscaping and outdoor lighting business and is familiar with local building codes and zoning rules – but is new to the public service arena.

The Sussex County Council approved a lease extension for the Milton Medic Station 111 at the CHEER Center on Broadkill Road in Milton. This lease extension will begin at midnight on October 1st until September 30, 2026.

In Old Business the Council revisited Conditional Use No. 2584 for an outdoor athletic field and concession trailer/food truck to be located on just over 8 acres off Camp Road in Bridgeville. Councilman Steve McCarron offered two amendments to Condition 7 which were both approved by the Council. The amended conditional use was approved with a unanimous vote.

The Sussex County Council will not meet on August 26th or September 2nd. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, September 9th in the County Administration Building on The Circle in Georgetown.
