UPDATED: Sussex County Council Defers on Two Conditional Use Applications for Lack of P&Z Recommendation

UPDATED – 04/28/26 – The Sussex County Council had a short agenda and didn’t start the meeting until 1pm. County Administrator Todd Lawson reminded Council that the meeting on May 5th is the annual budget workshop for the FY 2027 budget at 9am at the Sussex Public Safety Complex. The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 12.

Also on Thursday, May 7 the County will sponsor the annual County Government Day. High school juniors from Sussex County Boys & Girls State will come to the Council Chambers for a mock Council session where they will assume leadership roles and tackle county issues presented by various department heads. The mock Council session begins at 9:30am.

There were two public hearings on conditional use applications. Conditional Use No. 2554 was filed on behalf of E. Johnson Holdings, LLC and Conditional Use No. 2555 was filed on behalf of Bittersweet Investments, LLC. Both applications are on properties across Central Avenue from each other east of Frankford – one for a self-storage facility and the other for an office and storage. Both applications presented by Brenton and Russell Archut. There were no comments on either application and the records for both have been left open by the Planning & Zoning Commission, so with no recommendation from P&Z, the County Council had to defer their vote on each application.

The County Council meeting next Tuesday is the annual Budget Workshop on the FY 2027 budget and will be held at the Sussex County Public Safety Complex in Georgetown. The next regular meeting of the Council is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12.
