The Sussex County Council meets Tuesday morning for its regular meeting. This week the Council will revisit the proposed buffer ordinance amendment. The Council deferred a vote on the ordinance amendment after the public hearing which occurred during two meetings – January 11 and February 22 was completed so that all the testimony could be reviewed. The ordinance defines what’s allowed in a buffer, size and other aspects intended to preserve and protect existing resources – like forests and waterways. One amendment to the ordinance is section G, which would allow buffer-width averaging, which has been criticized by many of those who have commented on the ordinance. Section G brought the greatest amount of comment – with most saying it should be removed from the ordinance.

There will be a public hearing at 10:30 on an issuance of $7.78-million of General Obligation Bonds in connection with the Long Neck Communities septic elimination project. And first quarter Employee Recognition Awards will be handed out.

There will be three public hearings during the afternoon session – all are conditional use applications. CU No 2288 on behalf of Broom Solar Partners, LLC is for a solar farm east of Frankford. CU No 2284 on behalf of Eastern Shore Natural Gas Company for an expansion of a previous conditional use that was approved in 1988 in the Bridgeville area. The final CU NO 2305 on behalf of Barnhill Preserve of Delaware, LLC for a zoological park to be located in the area of Peppers Corner and Roxana Roads. The County Planning & Zoning Commission has recommended approval for all three applications.

The Sussex County Council meets at 10am Tuesday in the County Administration Building on the Circle in Georgetown. CLICK HERE FOR COUNCIL AGENDA CLICK HERE FOR COUNCIL PACKET
