Talk of Delmarva Fishing Report 10/29/25
Tuesday, I spent all day at the Hyatt Place in Dewey Beach attending the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission Annual Meeting. The ASMFC regulates fishing in state waters out to three miles from Maine to Florida. Tuesday鈥檚 subject was menhaden.
Ground zero for menhaden fishing is the Omega Protein plant in Reedville, Virginia. Today they rented a very nice bus to carry employees from the menhaden boats to Dewey Beach for the ASMFC meeting.
The first part of the meeting was the science of the menhaden fishery. Then the comments. Then the motions. Then the votes.
The first motions would have cut the total allowable catch by 50% for the next three years. The final vote cut the total allowable catch by 20% for 2026 with 2027 and 2028 to be decided next year.
