Teacher Injured During a Classroom Assault by 13 Year Old Student
A Wicomico County Deputy school resource officer was called to a classroom at Bennett Middle School for an assault. The SRO found that a 13 year old assaulted a classmate, but when a teacher tried to stop the 13 year old, the teen then assaulted the teacher – grabbing her around the neck and strangling her. The teen also struck another teacher who tried to pull the teen off the first teacher.
The 13 year old was taken to the Sheriff’s office where a juvenile referral was completed and sent to the Department of Juvenile Services, who released the teen to a parent on electronic monitoring pending a Juvenile Court appearance. The teen is charged with 1st and 2nd degree assault and reckless endangerment.
The teacher was taken by EMS to Tidal Health for treatment of her injuries.
