The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Warns of Fake Arrest Warrant Scam

The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about an increase in fraud schemes involving fake arrest warrants. Scammers are impersonating law enforcement, sometimes using the real names of deputies or supervisors, and claiming there is a warrant related to missed court dates or jury duty. Victims are pressured to make immediate payments using gift cards, wire transfers, cryptocurrency, or online payment platforms. The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes it will never request payment to resolve a warrant or prevent arrest. Residents who receive such calls are advised to hang up immediately. Suspected scams can be reported to the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 410-632-1111.
