Saturday morning there will be a Town Hall Meeting on What Delaware is Doing to Protect its Citizens from Gun Violence.  The Town Hall is at the Route 9 Library and Innovation Center in New Castle from 9 to 11am.  The town hall is sponsored by the Delaware Coalition Against Gun Violence and they welcome national and regional advocates to the forum.

The Delaware Coalition Against Gun Violence welcomes national gun violence prevention activist and author Igor Volsky, National Press Secretary for the Human Rights Campaign and author Sarah McBride, Delaware chapter leader for Moms Demand Action Sarah Stowens, and Representative David Bentz for a Town Hall style meeting and discuss on Saturday, May 4, 9 – 11 am, at the Rt. 9 Library and Innovation Center. New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer will welcome visitors.

Igor Volsky is founder and Director of Guns Down America and the author of “Guns Down: How to Defeat the NRA and Build a Safer Future with Fewer Guns.” Igor has appeared on MSNBC, CNN, Fox Business, Fox News, and CNBC television, and he has been a guest on many radio shows. His work on gun violence prevention has appeared in USA Today, U.S. News and World Report and the Orlando Sentinel, among others. In 2011, Forbes named Igor one of their top “30 under 30” in Law & Policy. At Guns Down, he sets the overall strategy and leads outreach efforts.

Sarah McBride is the National Press Secretary for the Human Rights Campaign and the author of “Tomorrow Will Be Different: Love, Loss, and the Fight for Trans Equality.” In 2012, Sarah made national headlines when she came out as transgender while serving as student body president at American University. A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Sarah serves on the Board of Directors of Equality Delaware and helped lead the successful effort to add gender identity and expression to her state’s nondiscrimination laws. In 2008, Sarah worked for Governor Jack Markell (D-DE) and, in 2010, for former Attorney General Beau Biden (D-DE). Prior to coming to HRC, Sarah worked at the Center for American Progress and interned at the White House, the first out trans woman to do so.
David Bentz earned a Master’s of Public Administration from the University of Delaware in 2011 while serving as a Legislative Fellow with both the State Senate and House of Representatives. He then spent four years working as a legislative aide in the Delaware House of Representatives. He represents RD 18 in the Delaware legislature.
Sarah Stowens is the state chapter leader for Moms Demand Action, a grassroots movement of Americans fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. Moms Demand Action campaigns for new and stronger solutions to lax gun laws and loopholes that jeopardize the safety of our families. Moms Demand Action has established a chapter in every state of the country and, along with Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Students Demand Action and the Everytown Survivor Network, it is part of Everytown for Gun Safety, the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country with more than 5 million supporters and more than 350,000 donors.
