The Town of Blades has contaminated drinking water. DNREC and the EPA conducted tests on the town’s water sources, finding unsafe levels of perflourinated compounds, or PFCs in all three of the towns wells. According to officials the contamination is most likely from past industrial operations in the area. While water is safe to bathe in and use for laundry, it is not recommended to drink. Officials say among other things, long term exposure to PFCs can cause liver issues and cancer. The Division of Public Health and DNREC will be providing bottled water for residents to use for drinking and cooking until a solution is found. Bottled Water will be available to all residents of Blades at Noon at the Blades Fire Hall.
