Two arrested, charged with breaking into parking meters in Georgetown

Two men were arrested after police say they were caught breaking into parking meters in Georgetown.

According to the Georgetown Police Department, shortly before 2 a.m., Monday, officers witnessed a man wearing dark clothing trying to break into a parking meter in the area of East Market Street.

This came on the heels of an ongoing investigation into thefts from parking meters, police said.

When officers tried to make contact with the man, he fled and was quickly apprehended in the area of South Race Street.

Police located a second suspect in a nearby parking lot who was allegedly found to be a co-conspirator.

Georgetown Police were able to review surveillance footage from the area and confirmed that the two men had damaged and removed currency from parking meters.

Chad Wilson, 34, of Georgetown, was arrested for Felony criminal mischief, Conspiracy, two counts of Theft under $1000 and one count of criminal mischief under $1000. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution.

Christopher Marshall, 42, of Millsboro was arrested for Resisting arrest, Felony criminal mischief, Conspiracy, two counts of Theft under $1000 and one count of criminal mischief under $1000. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution.
