Unemployment in Delaware Drops, National Average Remains Steady


Unemployment in Delaware has dropped both statewide and in Sussex County. Statewide unemployment dropped to its lowest level since August of 2025 – from 5.3% in April to 5.1% in May;  in Sussex County over the same period, unemployment fell from 4.9% to 4.2%. The National rate remained steady at 4.3%.

Over-the-year job gains were seen in the Professional & Business Services and Private Education and Health sectors. Over- the-year job losses were seen in Leisure & Hospitality and Manufacturing sectors. Delaware’s civilian labor force decreased from April to May by about 1500.
