Unemployment in Sussex County Remains Steady at 4%

Unemployment in Delaware increased by a tenth of a point from June to July to 4.1% – while the rate in Sussex County remained unchanged at 4%. The national rate also increased slightly to 4.2% in July. According to the Department of Labor, there were 21,000 unemployed Delawareans in July of this year – compared to 19,000 in July of 2024.

The highest over-the-year job increases were in the private education and health sector from July 2024 to July 2025, while the trade, transportation and utility sector saw the largest over-the-month increase from June to July of 2025.
