WGMD Fishing Report 10-18-19

It was just a tad windy on Thursday.  Gale warnings were up for the ocean, Chesapeake and Delaware bays.  Friday will be a little better, but I don’t think many boats will sail until Saturday.

I did get a late report from the Thelma Dale IV.  They ran out to the sea bass grounds on Wednesday morning and had good fishing until the wind and rain arrived.  Then the customers and crew got a free carnival ride for a couple of hours.

On Tuesday, Jeff Waxman, Steve Redden, Jr. and Shane Martin ran to the deep and returned with two fish short of a boat limit of dolphin.  The weather went south on them as well and it took four hours for the return trip.

The State of Maryland has released the Striped Bass Young-of-the-Year numbers for 2019.  It is 3.4 well below the average of 11.6.  No doubt this will give even more fuel to those pushing for strict regulations to reduce striped bass mortality.  We already know the spawning stock biomass is down and now the yoy is also low.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
