WGMD Fishing Report 5-15-21

If ever a day was made for fishing, Saturday was that day.  The fact that it was the opening day of black sea bass season just added icing to the cake.

I was up at 3: 45 AM and picked up my friend Doug Elliott from his house in Lewes around 4:15. No traffic at all between there and Angler’s Dock at the end of Talbert Street in Ocean City and even with a stop at WAWA for ice and coffee we were there in plenty of time to check in and get our gear on the boat.

After a two-hour ride on a glass-like ocean my first drop with a Diawa slow jig resulted in one of the largest sea bass I have ever caught.  The jig continued to produce keepers and shorts all morning until I switched to a top-bottom rig baited with squid and clam.  Both baits worked, but the keeper to short ratio was moving in favor of the shorts.  The gentleman fishing to my left limited out and was kind enough to add a few fish to our cooler so we too had 30 sea bass.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD Fishing Report.
