WGMD Fishing Report 5-27-18

Wayne Kennedy of Ocean View, DE fished with his side kick Zeus and caught these 4 blue fish using finger mullet at 3 R’s Beach.

Saturday the weather was warm and windy and it looks like Sunday will be more of the same with some rain mixed in for good measure.

According to Lighthouse View Tackle on the fishing pier at Cape Henlopen State Park if you want to catch a big bluefish or rockfish you have to be on station before dawn.  Saturday morning around 6:00 AM a 40-inch rockfish was caught about 200 yards east of the pier on fresh bunker.  Several big blues were taken at the same time on bunker, mullet and spoons.  Keeper flounder were caught from the pier during the day on bucktails with Gulp!

At Old Inlet Bait and Tackle we heard that the beach was pretty much a disaster all day with stuck vehicles and overcrowding.  If any fish were caught, it would have been a miracle.  The park rangers were busy writing tickets for a variety of offenses.  The early morning rockfish bite was slow pick from both sides of the inlet.

Chris at Hook ‘em and Cook ‘em said both head boats sailed and both brought in some sea bass.

This is Eric Burnley with your WGMD fishing report.
