WGMD Fishing Report 8-25-19

Saturday saw cooler temperatures, but we paid for it with 15 to 20-knot northeast winds.  There is no improvement until sometime next week.

I called Lewes Harbour Marina and Hook ‘em and Cook ‘em.  Both reported no boats made it out, although a few did try.  My guess is none will be going out before the middle of next week.

There will be a very important meeting at 6:00 PM on Thursday, August 29 at the DNREC Auditorium at 89 Kings Highway in Dover.  The ASMFC will be explaining the options for reducing the mortality of striped bass to conform to the latest recommendations from the board.  These reductions generally call for an 18 to 20% drop in landings for both recreational and commercial fishing.

The 2018 Striped Bass Benchmark Assessment stated that the striped bass stock is overfished and overfishing is occurring.  The ASMFC is required by law to take action to correct this situation.  This is the public’s chance to have input.
