WGMD Fishing Report 9-30-19

Sunday saw good fishing weather and it looks good for most of the coming week.

DNREC’s Fish and Wildlife Department has issued two possible choices for cobia regulations that will be in effect during the 2020 season.  Right now, Delaware has no cobia regulations and cobia are not allowed to be harvested in the federal Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

The first proposed regulation would allow cobia season to be open all year with a minimum size limit of 32 inches and a one fish bag limit per person and per boat.

The second proposed regulation would have a season that runs from June 1 to September 15.  The minimum size would be 40 inches and the bag limit would be one fish per person and three fish per boat.

At some future date there will be a public hearing on these regulations, probably in Dover.  I don’t expect a large turnout.

My personal choice would be the second regulation.  That season is when the fish are here and the more liberal bag limit will give charter boats a chance to take fish for more customers.
