UPDATED – 02/05/26 – Wicomico County officials are reminding the public that the Newland Park Landfill campus will be temporarily closed on Saturday, February 7th, 聽Sunday, February 8th, and Monday, February 9th, due to an investigative request from the Office of the State鈥檚 Attorney.
Beginning Saturday, February 7th at 6:00 AM, until Monday, February 9th at 6:00 AM, Brick Kiln Road will be closed from the Owens Branch/Brick Kiln intersection at the Newland Park Landfill gates to Naylor Mill Road. Access from Route 50 eastbound onto Owens Branch, and from Brick Kiln to Nanticoke Road will not be impacted. The closure includes the Newland Park landfill, the on-site convenience center, and the brush pile.
According to the Office of the County Executive for Wicomico County, there is no immediate threat to public safety associated with the closure.
All other County convenience centers will remain open and operational during normal business hours for County permit holders. Residents with valid permits are encouraged to utilize those alternative locations as usual. All haulers and municipalities have been personally notified.

We want to provide an update to the public regarding the temporary closure of the landfill. There are no employees or operational procedures under investigation.
Our priority is to handle this matter responsibly and thoroughly. We are working to be as transparent as possible while also ensuring we do not interfere with the integrity of the investigation.
Tonight at 5:00 PM, the County Council will be briefed by the State鈥檚 Attorney and the County Executive in a closed-door meeting so they can receive accurate and up-to-date information.
We appreciate the public鈥檚 patience and understanding as this process moves forward. As more information becomes available and can be appropriately shared, we will provide updates to the community.
