Wicomico Sheriff’s Office Issues Scam Alert
July 23, 2026/
The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam in which callers are spoofing the agency’s phone number and posing as sheriff’s deputies. Victims are told there is a warrant for their arrest and are pressured to make a payment to avoid being taken into custody. The Sheriff’s Office reminds residents that they will never call to demand money, gift cards, or other forms of payment to clear a warrant. Anyone who receives a suspicious call should hang up and contact the Sheriff’s Office directly to verify the information. Residents are also urged not to provide personal or financial information over the phone.
