UPDATE: WINTER STORM: Wicomico County–State of Emergency to End 5:00 PM Today

UPDATE 01/26/26:聽 Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano announces that the State of Emergency for Wicomico County will officially end at 5:00 p.m. today, Monday, January 26th. This decision was made after a thorough review of road and weather conditions across the county. Conditions have improved sufficiently to allow the emergency to be lifted at the end of normal business hours today. She commends essential employees including the entire Public Works Department for their efforts to keep residents as safe as possible under challenging conditions. County officials will continue to monitor conditions as temperatures change and encourage residents to remain cautious while traveling.

As a reminder, the Newland Park Landfill will open at 9am and the Convenience Centers will open at 12pm.

For continued updates and information, residents are encouraged to monitor official Wicomico County communications.

Original Post 01/25/26 –聽As County Executive, I am declaring a聽State of Emergency聽for Wicomico County due to severe weather conditions. The State of Emergency will be in effect聽beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026, and continuing through 11:59 p.m. on Monday, January 26, 2026.

As a result,聽all Wicomico County Government buildings will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026.

  • Nonessential employees聽are not required to report to work.
  • Essential employees聽should follow their departmental protocols and are expected to report as scheduled.

Landfill and Convenience Centers

  • The聽landfill and all convenience centers will be closed today, Sunday, January 25, 2026.
  • The聽landfill will reopen tomorrow, Monday, January 26, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.聽(delayed opening).
  • Convenience centers will reopen tomorrow, Monday, January 26, 2026, at 12:00 p.m.聽(delayed opening).
