UPDATED: Woman Dead, Suspect Arrested For Homicide In Ocean View

UPDATED: 10/22/21 1:15pm – Delaware State Police have identified the suspect in an Ocean View murder Thursday morning. Delaware State Police were called around 4:20am for a report of a shooting and found 55 year old Cheryl Beckett-Brown dead in the home from an apparent gunshot wound. Witness accounts led police to 38 year old Jason Meredith of Hebron, who was located in his pickup truck in Wicomico County by Sheriff Deputies. He was arrested on an out of state fugitive warrant and is being held until he can be extradited back to Delaware – he will be charged with 2nd degree murder, weapons and other offenses. The investigation is continuing.

A 55-year-old woman is dead and a 40-year-old man is in custody following a homicide in Ocean View early Thursday morning.

According to Delaware State Police, troopers responded to a reported shooting in the Bethany Crest community at about 4:21 a.m. The victim died at the scene.

Police obtained a description of a possible suspect and vehicle, and law enforcement agencies in Delaware and Maryland were advised. After about ten minutes, a deputy with the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle traveling erratically on Route 50 westbound near Tilghman Road. The driver was followed to a residence in Hebron, where the suspect was taken into custody without incident by deputies and Maryland State Police.

The suspect is 40-years-old and a resident of Hebron. He is being held and charges are forthcoming. The body of the victim has been turned over to Delaware Division of Forensic Science. Police have not yet released the names of the victim or the suspect.
