In 2016 three Wilmington firefighters died while battling in a blaze in Canby Park that was intentionally set by the woman who lived in the home, Beatriz Fana-Ruiz, who was angry about her living situation.  In August, Fana-Ruiz pleaded guilty to 2nd degree murder, 1st degree arson and 1st degree assault.  Last week she was sentenced to 30 years in prison, followed by 2 ½ years of probation.  ICE has also filed a detainer for her deportation back to her home country – the Dominican Republic – when she is released from custody in Delaware.
