Worcester Sheriff’s Office Warns of Phone Scam
The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of a phone scam that is circulating the area. This is similar to the phone scam that was report in Wicomico County in July 2021.
The recipients of these calls are told that they are the subject of a pending warrant out of the Circuit Court for Worcester County. We’re told that during these incidents, callers have represented themselves with the names of
actual deputies with the Sheriff’s Office.
Citizens are reminded that the Sheriff’s Office will never call someone and encourage them to make a payment over the phone to keep themselves from being arrested. If you receive an unsolicited call where you are asked to send
money to avoid an arrest, you should remember that is not the practice of law enforcement.
