Delaware Senator Chris Coons lives up to being co-chair of the Chicken Caucus. Senator Coons and Tom Carper along with 18 other senators introducing a bill exempting livestock producers from having to report animal waste emissions. The senators say a recent court ruling voided a 2008 EPA regulation, but the agency did not provide farmers clarity on new guidelines. This legislation exempts air emissions testings while reinstating other standard reports the industry had used over the past decade. A local trade association, Delmarva Poultry Industry, applauded the legislation, saying chicken growers are concerned about how to measure ammonia emmissions, how to report them, and the usefulness of the information being reported.
