UPDATED: Milford Fire Heavily Damages Home; 1 Person Hospitalized

UPDATED – 5pm – One person was injured in a fire Sunday morning in Milford. State Fire Marshal investigators are looking for the cause and origin on the blaze which heavily damaged a home on N. Brandywine Road in the Shawnee Acres development. When firefighters arrived on the scene, they were met by the male homeowner who would not let them in the home and threatened to harm himself with a knife.  Firefighters staged to a safe distance and waited for State and Milford Police to deem the scene safe.

Firefighters took some defensive action on the fire until the homeowner climbed out a basement window and was taken into custody.  The man was taken to Bayhealth Hospital – Sussex Campus with smoke inhalation. He is in serious condition. Fire damage is estimated at $75,000.

UPDATED: 11:55am – Subject has come out of the now burning house. Firefighters have been able to put the fire under control and are working to put it out.

Sunday, 3/31/19 10:40am – Structure fire on N. Brandywine Road in Shawnee Acres. Crews arriving on the scene found smoke showing and a disorderly person not allowing fire personnel entry. Crews from Carlisle FD, Ellendale, Memorial and EMS on the scene along with police.
