Bridgeville Man Arrested for 6th Offense DUI

A Bridgeville man has been arrested after a traffic stop east of Bridgeville on Saturday morning. Delaware State Police spotted a pickup speeding southbound on Coverdale Road in the area of Nat Turner Street around 8am and pulled the truck over. Speaking to the driver, identified as 29 year old Cristian Velasquez, the trooper noticed multiple signs of impairment. Velasquez refused standard field sobriety tests and was arrested.
A search of his person turned up a folding knife in his pocket and computer check showed that Velasquez is a convicted felon and had five prior DUI-related convictions and a suspended driver’s license.
Velasquez was taken to Troop 5, where he was charged with the crimes listed below:聽 聽
- 6th Offense DUI (Felony)
- Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited Prior Violent Crime (Felony)
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
- Driving while Suspended or Revoked
- Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession
- Speeding
Velasquez was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $15,150 secured bond.
