UPDATED: Two Die in Residential Structure Fire in Parsonsburg; Off-duty Firefighter Injured

UPDATED – 2pm – An investigation into the cause of a deadly fire in Parsonsburg Sunday morning is underway by the Maryland State Fire Marshal and Maryland State Police. Two people died in the fire and an off-duty Ocean City firefighter was injured. A passerby spotted smoke and flames coming from the home on Old Ocean City Road and tried to wake the owners. The off-duty firefighter, who is also a volunteer with the Parsonsburg VFC, arrived and kicked in a rear door hoping to locate someone and discovered a victim. The off-duty firefighter attempted to remove the victim but was overcome by smoke – he is currently in stable condition at a Baltimore hospital. Fire quickly spread through the home and the blaze was upgraded to two alarms. Sections of the two-story home collapsed – it took firefighters nearly two hours to bring the blaze under control. The remains of two victims were found inside. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation – the victims have been taken to the Chief Medical Examiner for identification and determination of the cause of death.

UPDATED – 8:15am – Two people have died in a house fire in Parsonsburg this morning. The Maryland State Fire Marshal has confirmed that Parsonsburg firefighters were called for a residential structure fire on Old Ocean City Road just after 2:30 this morning and the remains of two individuals were found inside the home.
Firefighters from throughout Wicomico County as well as Worcester County and Sussex County were on the scene to assist or provide standby. Excavators are assisting investigators with assessing the home and will remain on the scene throughout the morning.
Maryland State Police are also assisting with the investigation.
