National Electrical Safety Month: Delmarva Power Shares Boating and Power Line Safety Tips

As graduation season continues, Delmarva Power is reminding customers not to release popular Mylar (also known as foil baloons) into the air…

Senior Communications Specialist with Delmarva Power–Mary Oakey tells the Talk of Delmarva that with May as National Electrical Safety Month, the company is reminding customers about other safety tips as well including the need to be careful around electric equipment and power lines near water. Safety officials recommend staying aware of overhead and underwater power lines, checking clearances before moving or storing boats, and using extra caution while launching or towing boats to avoid contact with electrical equipment.

Oakey reminds Talk of Delmarva listeners to stay at least 35 feet away from power lines and keep all items a safe distance away as well. Also you can contact them directly to report any downed or sparking power lines.

ALWAYS assume power lines are live. Keep yourself and any items at least 35 feet away from power lines. NEVER touch a power line. To report a downed power line, call 1-800-898-8042.
